Looking on the MUA blog, they have been posting the biggest makeup trends straight from the catwalk of New York Fashion Week. For this evening look, I have decided to look at the most striking trends. When it comes to evening makeup, I believe the makeup needs to be bolder in order to be visible in evening lighting. It's also an excuse to put a bold lip and bold eye together! On their blog, they have posted three key trends that I would like to incorporate into my final look. They have discussed graphic eyeliner, matte berry lips and gold glitter.
Graphic liner is a great way to define your eyes. In evening lighting, some features need to be made more prominent and eyeliner is the perfect solution for this. On the catwalk, there have been unusual placements for the liner on the eyes. Below, shows two images from one of their posts where the liner has been below the eyes. This creates an interesting detail, but there is something I don't particularly agree with. Maybe it's the way it brings the eyes down, or because it doesn't look natural? I can't decide. Even though they state "not a cat eye in sight", I cannot get enough of a statement cat eye to accentuate a feminine eye shape. The MUA makeup artist also often shows a lot of 'Looks For The Weekend' using a cat eye flick.

As a part of MUA's brand, they focus heavily on their social media customer support. There is always a great interaction with the MUA team and customers, so it is refreshing to see posts from other customers/makeup artists using the MUA products. I noticed on their Facebook page, a customer has used the well-known Undressed Palette to create the most gorgeous smokey cut crease. They have added the perfect feline flick and highlighted the inner corners beautifully. This look is extremely ideal for an evening look as it is bold, feminine and beautiful.

MUA provide a wonderful range of eyeshadows to create the perfect gold/bronze/brown smokey eye. There are a range of matte and shimmer eyeshadows. My personal preference is to create the base of a smokey eye with matte eyeshadows, then build ontop of this with shimmer. This creates more definition to the look when only the convex features (centre of eyelid, inner corner of eye and brow bone) are highlighted with shimmer. As you can see from the image below, there are masses of shades to suit every skin tone/complexion to create whichever look you desire. The palettes allow freedom to create day or night time looks with the varieties of matte to shimmer, light to dark.

Pearl Eyeshadow Golden - £1
Matte Eyeshadow Chestnut - £1
Undress Me Too Palette - £4
Another look that has popped up on the catwalks lately is a statement berry lip. This look has a very autumnal vibe, yet the berry looks like juicy summer fruits. The darker shade is perfect for a defined evening lip look, and has the ability to transform a look completely, creating something instantly glamorous. In MUA's range of lipsticks there are multiple products and shades to create this look.

Below, it is clear that MUA provide a large range of products to create the perfect berry lip for any skin tone. Conveniently, the majority of these shades have the words 'berry' or 'plum' in their name. They all create a different finish from cull coverage, to a sheen, from glossy, to matte.

Matte Lipstick Wild Berry - £1
Lip Switch Duo Persian Plum - £3
Lip Liner Brooding Plum - £1
MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer Kooky £3
There is simply no better way to transform a daytime look to an evening look than using glitter! And to my delight, Tadashi Shoji had their models wear gold glitter on their eyelids. Glitter looks glamorous yet playful and can be used subtly or boldly to intensify the look. Here, the model has a very natural face, looking makeup free, teamed with the smallest amount of glitter to totally transform the look. The model may be wearing minimal makeup, but the glitter instantly creates a party/night time impression.

To create a similar glitter effect, MUA provide the below products suitable for eyes. Here we can see gold shimmer eyeshadow, which will be perfect for creating the base of your glitter as it is a nice bright, warm gold. There is also the option of a glitter pencil eyeliner for a more precise drawn on effect. This will also be useful to use on the waterline. The eye dust and glitter liquid liner are great to add over the top of product to intensify the gold glitter, or used on their own for a subtle glitter enhancement. These products are perfect for jazzing up your makeup for an evening look!
Intense Glitter Eyeliner Gold Nugget - £1
Eyedust Shade 4 - £1
Glitter Eyeliner Shade 2 City of Gold - £1
Pearl Eyeshadow Golden - £1
When it comes to skin for evening makeup, I think of strongly contoured and highlighted makeup with a beautiful dewy and glossy glow. I think of tanned, olive skin which has a full coverage, but doesn't look 'caked'. For an evening makeup, it is very important to prep and prime the skin before the foundation application, then set the makeup with either powder or spray for a long wearing coverage to last you all night. Evening makeup provides the opportunity to go all out in my books, and to not be afraid of showing off your makeup skills!
MUA provide the below products to create the perfect lasting glowing skin coverage. From a range of primers and fixers, to different bronzing and highlighting products, MUA has just what you need!

This look produced by MUA's makeup artist is the perfect night out makeup to match the berry lip trend! She has created a beautifully bronzed complexion, teamed with brown smokey eyes and a glossy berry lip. You can see she has also highlighted the inner corner of her eyes and brow bones for a more definite structure to the eye makeup. She has paired the brown smokes with a subtle winged eyeliner with layers of mascaras on the lashes. The final effect is strong, beautiful and feminine. The glossy lips are juicy and rich, perfect for a glamourous night out! The only thing she needs now is a bit of glitter!
This look will provide inspiration for the MUA evening look that I am going to create. This, along with the previously stated trends, to produce the ideal evening look to represent MUA's brand and to fit the customer profile.

Below, is a link to Balmain AW10 show, showing the incredibly inspiring collection for this evening makeup. The clothes showcase strong, structural shapes, which I am going to convey in the highlighting an contouring. There are lots of backs and contrasting golds which look highly glamourous and luxuriant. This will be shown in the eye makeup, which will look rich and expensive. There are also dashes of deep maroons and purples, which will be used on the lips. In this show there is a sense of female empowerment and the models have great confidence in their walk. I believe that this makeup look also needs to show the same strength to demonstrate how makeup has the ability to transform someone, not only in their appearance, but confidence. There is a slight rock chick vibe in this show, and I believe a strong androgynous slicked hair style will replicate this perfectly.
This image shows the beautiful Anne Hathaway on the cover of Elle in a Balmain dress from the AW10 collection. She looks flawlessly feminine and elegant, perfectly balanced with power and strength. Her stance holds her ground and has sex appeal. Her hair is glossy and slicked back in the image to the left, then the image to the right shows her hair looser and more feminine. Her makeup is dark and smokey for a seductive evening look.

Make-Up Mood Board:
The mood board displays a variety of images of gorgeous bronzed skin, berry lips, smokey flicked eyes and gold glitter. These looks will the starting point of my designs and testing for the final look. On this mood board, I have added potential MUA products that I wish to use to create this look.
Make-Up Testing:
To test the glowing skin, I added Topshop cream highlighter to Screenface foundation. This was then applied all over a primed face in both of the images above on different skin tones. The left shows a paler, pink based complexion. The right shows a warmer, olive complexion. The preference was on the olive skin tone as the glowing skin looked more natural. It is important that I chose a model with this skin tone based on this test. For my final outcome, I will use less highlighter mixed with the foundation and only apply it to areas which need highlighting, as it appears that the highlighter to the full face is far too much and makes the skin look greasy.
I also used the same lip shade in both images (MAC Rebel), yet they have come up slightly different. On the left, the lip colour has come out pinker, and the right is deeper and richer which will be perfect for the evening look.
To the eyes, I have applied bronze tones all over the eyelid. This adds to the warm glow of the foundation and looks gorgeous on an olive skin. The bronze shimmer adds to the evening look and will look beautiful in a darker lighting.

To the existing tests, I have added a simple clean winged eyeliner flick. This creates drama and intensifies the femininity of the look. I also added a slight highlight on the brow bone to create a beautiful finish. Added to this, I layered more mascara onto the eyelashes to create more impact.
The image on the right shows how I have added a darker eyeshadow to the outer corner of the eyelid. This creates more depth to the eye makeup and generates a more appropriate look for the evening. For my final look, I will alter the smokey eye so that the darker colours are kept matte, in order to create a more subtle depth to the eyelid.
I have kept the dark lip throughout as I believe the colour really compliments the eyeshadow colours and olive complexion.
With this look, I would like to add gold glitter to the inner corner of the eyes. This will either be created using glitter liquid eyeliner, or a mixing medium and loose glitter or shimmer. This will transform the look instantly to a party/evening look.

Final Face Chart:
This final face chart shows a strong contour and highlight to create a beautifully dimensioned coverage. The tones are warm, with a hint of blush to the cheeks to bring out a natural colour. The cheekbones, brow bones and cupids bow will have a soft highlight, which will be created by a light shimmery shade from an MUA eyeshadow palette. I believe that is creates a wonderful pigmentation on the skin without it looking dry or caked. Using MUA's incredible eyeshadow palettes, I will be creating a brown smokey eye with dark matte shades and gold/bronze shimmery shades. On the inner corners of the eyes I will be using a gold MUA eyeshadow as a base, topped with a loose glitter mixed with a mixing medium to create a bold glittery effect. On the lips I will apply a deep red to the entire lip to finish to evening look off.

Hair Mood Board:
This seasons hottest hair trend has to be the strongly androgynous slicked back hairstyle. This varied look has been sported on the runway by many designers and even many celebrities have rocked this look on the red carpet. The hairstyle is fierce, fashion forward and enables the wearer to carry a stronger makeup look. This hairstyle is not to be underestimated, as only few can pull this slick look off. It takes a confident female who is certain of their beauty to carry this well. In order to create this look, heat and product will be necessary to produce the desired effect.
Hair Testing:

This hairstyle has been created using various methods of heat and product. To create to straight and shiny effect, I used a hairdryer on a very hot heat and dried the hair in the direction of the hair. This created a straight finish, but also intensifies the shine. I then used straighteners to complete the look, especially at the ends of the hair, for a sleek finish. I then combed a small amount of mousse through the hair to control the fly away hairs and secured the front sections behind the ears. To finish the look, I sprayed hair shine over the hair and smoothed out the ends for a neat and polished look.

To create this hairstyle, I used the same heat process before. This time I created three sections of hair - both sides and top. To the side sections I combed through mousse and secured the hair at the back of the head. The top section was slightly backcombed, combed through with mousse, then positioned down the centre of the back of the head. I then sprayed hairspray onto my hands and smoothed over the hair. Shine spray was then added to the tips of the hair to create a sleek and glossy finish.
With the hair prepped as above, I then gathered the hair into a low ponytail. This was secured with a hair tie, then a strand of hair was wrapped over the top and secured with a grip. This sleek look is very classy and simplistic.
With the hair similar to the very first image, the hair was then tied into a low ponytail. The ends of the hair were straightened for an extremely sleek finish. Even though the ponytail styles look very sleek and glamorous, I feel that they aren't enough for an evening look. There isn't enough sexiness to this hairstyle, so I feel that the slicked back hair left down is the most suitable.
Hair Chart:

This hair chart display my chosen hair style; the slicked back hair with the cross over at the back. The hair is shiny and glamourous which suits the heavy makeup look beautifully. The style is elegant yet powerful and can easily be created by anyone. This look is perfect for the MUA customer because it is fashion forward and minimalistic to compliment a powerful make up look.
